Nine yards is the traditional length of a saree, and nine is the number of stories in The Whole Nine Yards by Jagari Mukherjee. The collection is now on the shelves of bookstores across India, from Delhi, Jaipur and Chandigarh to Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.
Author’s Ink Publications handled the retail distribution that placed it there. Here is where you will find it, with photographs from the stores.
About The Whole Nine Yards by Jagari Mukherjee
The Whole Nine Yards is a collection of nine short stories. The stories centre on women at a point of decision — about love, marriage, work, and how to live with grief or loneliness — and look at how different people choose differently when life puts them in much the same place.
The title story takes on the saree itself: the way wearing one is sometimes treated as a qualification for marriage, and how its protagonist’s feelings about the saree change over time. The cover, a folded saree with a gold border on a quiet mauve ground, carries the same idea.
The nine stories are:
- The Only Solution
- The Model
- The Whole Nine Yards
- The Email
- The Dilemma
- The Petunias
- The Rendezvous
- The Court Marriage
- The Polka Dotted Butterfly
For a reader’s view of the collection, see the review on Kiranmayi reviews, which rated it four out of five.

Why a short story collection belongs on a bookshop shelf
Short stories are made for browsing. A reader can open a collection at any story, read the first page standing in the aisle, and know within a few minutes whether the voice is for them. That is exactly the kind of discovery a bookshop allows and a search result does not.
In the photographs above, The Whole Nine Yards appears on display tables, racks and shelves beside popular fiction and non-fiction, which is where a reader who has never heard of it is most likely to pick it up.
Want your book on these shelves?
Author’s Ink places books with bookstore chains and independents across India, with photographs of every placement so the author can see exactly where the book landed. Our retail distribution runs from a five-city plan covering 15–20 bookstores to a nationwide plan covering 50 or more, and it can be added to any publishing package. If your book was published elsewhere, talk to us about it.
See the options on our book distribution services page, read how The Simplicity Trap and Maharishi Sushruta Compendium reached the same shops, or talk to us about your book. More titles are in books in stores.
Congratulations to Jagari Mukherjee on nine stories that have found their way onto shelves across the country.
