VLDD and VLDA: what the two names mean

The two names look alike and are sometimes used for each other. However, they are different things.

VLDD stands for Veterinary and Livestock Development Diploma. It is a two-year diploma of Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), Hisar. The university’s Institute of Para Veterinary Sciences offers it, and so do private colleges affiliated to the university. Our source is the LUVAS diploma prospectus for 2024-25.

VLDA stands for Veterinary Livestock Development Assistant. It is a government post in Haryana, and recruitment is through the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC). The syllabus HSSC has published for the post sets the level at Matric plus a two-year diploma. It also gives the subject-related part the largest weightage, which it marks as tentative.

In short, VLDD is the diploma and VLDA is the post. Other states recruit for comparable posts under different names, each with its own qualification and eligibility rules.

Which exams is VLDD Refresher for?

The front cover says the book is for competitive examinations. It lists them as VLDA, VLDD Exit Exam, LSA, Veterinary Pharmacy, LEO and VI.

The cover does not spell out the short forms. LSA, LEO and VI are generally read as Livestock Assistant, Livestock Extension Officer and Veterinary Inspector. These are posts in the animal husbandry departments of different states. However, titles, qualifications and eligibility differ from state to state.

So before you plan your preparation, read the official notification for the exam you are targeting. Check the qualification it asks for, the subject list and how the marks are divided. Whichever VLDD book or VLDA exam book you study from, keep that notification beside it.

Subjects covered in VLDD Refresher

According to the back cover, the book covers these key areas, along with other relevant subjects:

  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Animal Nutrition
  • Livestock Production and Management
  • Livestock Products Technology
  • Breeding and Reproduction
  • Pharmacology

Important concepts are presented with a clear focus on examination requirements. As a result, the book aims to help you strengthen your fundamentals and to make your preparation more structured and focused.

A practical tip: keep the official syllabus of your own exam beside you and tick off each subject as you work through it. That way, you know which parts of the book matter most for your paper.

How to use VLDD Refresher at each stage

The back cover says the book is designed for three stages: starting your preparation, strengthening your concepts and final revision. Here is a practical way to use a refresher at each of them.

If you are just starting

Use the book as a map. Go through one subject at a time to see how much there is to learn and which topics are new to you. Then mark those topics and read them in detail from your course textbooks and class notes.

If you are strengthening your concepts

Go back to the subjects you marked as weak. First study the topic in full, and then read the concise version in the refresher. After that, close the book and write down what you remember. The gaps tell you what to study again.

If you are in final revision

This is where a refresher earns its place on your desk. Set a fixed number of days for each subject and move through them in order. Do not open new sources at this stage. Instead, revise, recall, and repeat the subjects that still feel unsure.

No single book replaces steady study and practice. A refresher works best as the book you come back to between your main reading and the exam hall.

Price and where to buy VLDD Refresher

The printed price (MRP) of the paperback is Rs 630. You can order it online from three places:

These were the listed prices in early October 2026. Online prices and delivery charges change, so check the listing for the current figure before you order.

In the first week of October 2026, the book was #1 in Amazon Hot New Releases in the General Medicine category. Amazon rankings change often, so read that position as a snapshot of that week and not as a permanent one.

Writing an academic or exam-preparation book?

If you have notes, question sets or a manuscript for your own subject, we can help you turn it into a finished book. For example, the cover of such a book has to tell a student at a glance which exams it is for.
